Food (taco bar and enchiladas) will be available for $10 (proceeds to the Legacy Scholarship Fund). Like Last year, ALR Post 209 is also running a race that will happen at the end of the Pony Express celebration as a supplemental fundraiser for the campaign.
- You can nominate someone to participate in the race for a $20 entrance fee or you can put money into one of the buckets that are already started.
- Some star nominations are State Chairman, Past ALR State Chairman Steve Butner, Department Sr Vice Commander and District 7 Area Coordinator Cornell “Thumper” Penn, ALA Department President Bettina Kossow, Post 209 Commander Marvin Weaver Jr. and Past Department Commander Jay Bowen.
- Top winners will pull a wagon with a passenger in the race. Last place persons will have to follow behind with a “pooper scooper” picking up anything the wagon pullers drop along the route.
All funds collected will be submitted to department for delivery to National American Legion at the National Convention. Please urge your members to donate generously.
- The routes are still being finalized, but the Relay stations as of today (25 July) are at the bottom of this email. If your post has donations and can be at a relay station to turn it in and cheer the riders on in their mission, please do so. If not, donations can be mailed to Post 209, 3613 Jeannine Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80917.
- Checks should be written to ALR209 with ‘Legacy Pony Express’ in the memo line. ALR209 will track donations and consolidate them into a single check to Department.
Legacy Campaign – business/corporate donations
- The pamphlet at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1AAzYfop5aAwBVebB-yQoOZlmdlzWmL3Q/view?usp=sharing outlines the campaign and was published/distributed several months ago. It is mainly meant for external donations to the Legacy Scholarship Fund as part of the 2022 campaign.
- If you have received donations from businesses under this campaign, please include them with any donations from your post family during the Pony Express or by mail to Post 209.
- Unlike Post donations, corporate/business donations are written to American Legion Department of Colorado with ‘2022 Legacy Scholarship Campaign’ in the memo or cover letter. This is so the proper tax form can be provided for the donation.
